Next stop: Bulgaria
Caravan Hitchhiking Project crosses Balkan area
After a warm welcome in Pecs and Hungary, the Carvan Hitchking Project is now heading to Bulgaria with final stop Istanbul. While everyone is watching the World Cup, two Dutch artists and a dog undertake their own match; with a caravan, without a car, Tjerk Ridder, his dog Dachs and Peter Bijl hitchhike to the European Capitals of Culture 2010: Ruhr (Germany), Pécs (Hungary) and Istanbul (Turkey).
Symbolic journey
Tjerk and Peter exhibit that essentially one needs others to keep on going. On their turn they help out their drivers by inspiring them to live up to their dreams. The personal stories are also a source of inspiration for daily blogs as well as a music album.
Earlier this year, the artists, hitchhiked from Utrecht (aiming to be Capital of Culture in 2018) to the Capitals of Culture Ruhr2010 and Pécs2010. The journey produced numerous creative encounters and stories and moreover it appeared to be a media hit! In more that 5 countries the Caravan Hitchhiking Project was mentioned in the national press (amongst the National News).
The Balkan-trip is already becoming a media hit. In Serbia the national press as well as the German press will report on the journey, in Bulgaria a Belgian journalist and photographer will ‘hook on’ to the project.
Tjerk and Peter also report on their trip in daily blogs and visual publications on www.caravanproject.eu as well as on social media (twitter, facebook, youtube).
